It is the first section of the Ofsted report but how often do you really check? A pupil questionnaire only gives you the answers to the questions that you ask, observations will be influenced by what you already know. A Pupil Voice Review from Awen Education will give you objective feedback on what it is really like to attend your school.

A PVR can focus on specific groups of pupils including EAL, AAC users, LAC or those pupils who display anxiety or attachment needs, or can be a generic overview of the whole school. PVRs include an observation of pupils arriving/ leaving with a focus on how they interact with each other and with staff, how are their independence skills promoted, are they safe, do they get the opportunity to use their communication strategies and how do they present on arrival/ departure from school- happy, relaxed, anxious, confident…… this essential transition time is a key time of each school day- is it the best that it could be?

When adults are communicating with pupils, do they give them time to respond and do they take notice of what and how they are responding? How engaged are pupils with their learning? Is every opportunity to promote learning taken?

PVR offer opportunities to evaluate safety, wellbeing, and personal development. This can assist with knowing how effective procedures in your school. Awen Education have the communication knowledge to be able to observe, interact, and understand what pupils are communicating through Makaton, AAC use, symbols, and speech.

Typically a Pupil Voice Review would cover several aspects of the whole school day and include a report of evidence based feedback with suggestions. Please contact Awen Education to discuss a tailor made PVR.
