Schools have a statutory duty, as part of a broad and balanced curriculum, to promote the spiritual, moral, social, and cultural (SMSC) development of pupils and prepare them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life. Character education contributes to this duty to promote SMSC.
Character education framework guidance (publishing.service.gov.uk)
Awen can work with you to define your Character Education through an audit and tracking of how Personal Development is promoted in your school, leading to an evaluation, report and actions for further development. This is set against the six character benchmarks: What kind of school are we? What are our expectations of behaviour towards each other? How well do our curriculum and teaching develop resilience and confidence? How good is our co-curriculum ? How well do we promote the value of volunteering and service to others? How do we ensure that all our pupils benefit equally from what we offer? The focus of this will be on inclusion and ensuring that actions are realistic and achievable for your setting.
